Utilities

The City of Fairhope owns its electrical distributing system, gas system, water works and sewage system. As a city that operates its budget through one main revenue source—utilities—it is imperative that elected officials understand and have input on the efficiency of the Utilities Department.

The Fairhope Utilities Department, a member of the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority, includes the Electrical Department, Gas Department and the Water & Sewer Department. With the current loss of customers, due to a lawsuit with Riviera Utilities, within the Fairhope jurisdiction and the continual increase in the cost of delivering utilities to the citizens, we must operate our Utilities Department more efficiently and effectively in order to eliminate the need to increase utility rates.
